Solid vs Engineered Flooring

Hardwood flooring comes in a variety of types, thanks to advances in technology, milling and so forth. We are experienced in all types of Hardwood flooring. Here are some questions to ask for choosing Hardwood flooring for your flooring choice.

Location in your house for flooring:

Below - Grade (below ground)

If you are installing flooring below ground or sub-level living room or family room areas, you will probably want to look more at engineered hardwood flooring. The reason for this is due to the moisture level is higher due to the living area being surrounded, partially or fully, by soil. If you are putting flooring on concrete, you will definitely need to use engineered flooring product. Another question would be are you using any type of sub-flooring. If you are, then look at the type of sub-flooring that will be used and check requirements of the manufacturer for the top layer.

On - Grade (main level)

Main level flooring is usually safe for solid wood flooring in most areas. If you have a laundry room or bathroom area, you will want to think twice before putting solid hardwood flooring as the moisture level will be higher on a regular basis.

Above Grade (above main level)

Above Grade levels abide by the same rules as the main level of the home. Bathrooms are usually a place you will definitely not use any hardwood flooring. Areas away from moisture dense rooms or areas, including above grade laundry rooms.
